What is going on with my escrow account?

Dear John: My mortgage was recently switched over to Mr. Cooper, formerly Nationstar. I recently received correspondence indicating that our escrow account is short by approximately $10,000. The tax amount it is attempting to collect is double what we should owe, according to my county’s assessment statement. I have attempted to confirm how it arrived at the $10,000 figure and the Mr. Cooper agent simply advised me that it uses a third party to collect escrow funds. I have voluntarily provided the real estate tax documentation, and the only response I received was that my inquiry was being closed out as resolved.
