Maximum Security jockey Luis Saez suspended after Kentucky Derby controversy

Luis Saez lost again. The Maximum Security jockey, who watched a Kentucky Derby crown get stripped from him after his apparent winning horse was disqualified for causing interference at the race’s second turn, has now been suspended 15 racing days by Churchill Downs stewards. Saez, who was cited by the stewards for a “failure to control his mount and make the proper effort to maintain a straight course,” will serve the suspension from May 23 through June 14. Owner Gary West had already stated that Maximum Security would not run in Saturday’s Preakness, following a failed appeal of the second-ever disqualification of the first horse to cross the finish line in the 145-year history of the Kentucky Derby.
