Hackers target Tribune Publishing’s daily papers in malware attack

A cyberattack disrupted weekend print runs of some of the biggest US dailies in surprise year-end fireworks for circulation managers. The attack targeted Tribune Publishing Co. — owner of the Chicago Tribune, the New York Daily News, The Baltimore Sun and other dailies. But it also affected the LA Times and the San Diego Union-Tribune, which had been in the Tribune’s portfolio until sold to billionaire Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong in June.
